By Ping Chen (Wuhan, China: International Conference on Material Science and Environmental Engineering, 2015), pp. 109–113 Effects of Hydrogen-Enriched Reduction on Metallurgical Properties of Iron-Bearing Burdens Under BF Operation with COG Injection Hongtao Wang, Mansheng Chu, Chuanguang Bi, Zhenggen Liu and Wenbin Dai Abstract Coke oven gas (COG) injection is considered as one of feasible measures to reduce carbon emission of BF. The effects of COG injection on the reduction of iron-bearing burdens were numerically simulated by means of multi-fluid BF model, which revealed that with increasing COG injection rate, solid temperature gradually decrease, in-furnace H2 concentration increases, the reduction of magnetite and wustite by H2 is evidently accelerated, the reaction rate of wustite by H2 reduction is enhanced and the reduction degree of mixed burdens is strengthened.

This observation shows the strong microwave absorption in both magnetite concentrate and biochar, which agrees well with the findings in previous reports [7, 8]. Microwave Reduction of Briquettes Microwave heating usually accelerate the process of reduction because of its volumetric and selective heating effects [6]. As both the concentrate and the reducing agent are good microwave absorbers, the reduction can be completed in a few minutes. To assess the process, the effects of different parameters on the metallization of iron ore have been performed.

6 mm of diameter. After drying the pellets were sintered in argon at 870 °C for 2 h. Results and Discussion Product Appearance The synthesis product was first observed with the naked eye to evaluate the success of the melting. A first criterion for a successful melting is the absence of crust on the top of the crucible. When the iron chips placed on the top of the charge melt, surrounding oxides will start melting too, and ultimately a molten bath is formed in the bottom of the crucible. If oxides are left on the top they might fall down in the melt and dissolve into it.
