Die purpose des Buches ist die Beschreibung und Interpretation der mechanischen und dynamisch-mechanischen Eigenschaften von viskoelastischen Körpern, da diese normalerweise das Einsatzgebiet von elastomeren Werkstoffen bestimmen.

Zu Beginn werden die Grundlagen der linearen Deformationsmechanik für den idealen Festkörper und die ideale newtonsche Flüssigkeit vorgestellt und auf den viskoelastischen Körper übertragen.
